Antequera Malaga
Here's the well known plateau Hoya de Antequera is located, with a population of 41.010 inhabitants; in its sorroundings there are important indications from the Bronze Age ( The Caves of Menga, Viera, and the Romeral ). The town is of Roman origin (Antikaria), in the VIII century, the muslims seized it (Antaquira) and later on it was conquered by the Catholic Kings. The XVI century was the largest economic peak for the town and the XVII and XVIII centiries, those of the greatest architectural thrust.
In La Alcazaba, constructed on the Roman ruins, it highlights La Torre del Homenaje, where the famous Papabellotas Bell and the Arco de los Gigantes are located. It is worth it to visit the Royal Collegiate church of Santa Maria la Mayor, from the XVI century with the Mudejar roof and the Renaissance facade (Diego de Siloé). The Portichuelo, from the XVI century, unique chapel on the street. Collegiate Church of San Sebastian, XVI century, with a Renaissance facade (Diego de Vergara), its towers is Baroque. The church of San Pedro, from the Renaissence period, has a heavy exterior. Palacio de EScalonías, a beautiful show of the italian mannerims. The inside of the church of Carmen is spectacular (Baroque) with a mannerist facade.
The Palace of Najera, the current Municipal Museum, is a magnificient sample from the XVIII century. The Convento de la Encarnación, from the XVI century, conserves the charm of the conventional church. Palacio de los Marqueses de la Peña de los Enamorados, from the XVI century had palatial Muslim architecture. The Puerta de Granada, from the XVIII century. The Church of the Madre de Dios de Monteagudo, from the XVIII century, is the most outstanding building of the city due to tis innovative architecture. The Church of the Convento de Recoletas, from the XVII century of the jesuits, who imposed their characterist type on the facade. Casa de Pinofiel, the palace constructed in the XVI century. Very beautiful stately houses like that of Ramirez and Colchado, from the XVIII century. San Zoilo Monastery, from the XVI century of the late Gothic. Iglesia del Convento de la Trinidad, XVII century, mannerist, and a endless list of religious buildings whose relation would be overwhelming. Megalithic caves: 2.500-2.00 AC, Menga, with a corridor of 2 m, covered by five large tiles. Viera, of lesser length, and that of Romeral different from the previous and the grave consist of a tholos.
Natural Park of Torcal is situated in the South of Antequera 15Km. Away, with an extraordinary kartic landscape where the there is limestone, shaped by the water, which has formations of surprising spectacularly.
